Applause for your writing style in this article Richard - the more aggressive tone in response to the whiney comments from the first article shows you're proactive in preventing another wasted comment board. Not that I recommend PB writers always include 'crying like a baby' and 'crappy pieces' in future articles, but I appreciate them here.
^ the black tabs bolted to the BB mount *are* the iscg tabs - it's a replaceable part in case you break the tabs (for instance with a taco bash) - great little extra feature. I've had several knollies, and despite 'all' those pivots, the bearings are so high quality that they're maintenance-free.
Yes the Knolly website is missing a lot of info right now - customer service was and continues to be impeccable though, even though you're unlikely to ever need it.
This isn't a standard, and it isn't even new. Shimano has already offered the through-axle derailleur in the past - I still have an '04 direct mount 135 x 12 Saint.
The only thing I didn't like about it was that when you take the rear wheel off (which I had to do to cram it in my car), the derailleur hangs only by the chain.
I think saying 'most situations' is a bit extreme - I used my angleset on two different bikes trying out different angles, resulting in 4 different installs...it's worked perfectly every time. My bikes are both 1.5" headtubes though - perhaps they don't work as well with tapered headtubes.
